We stayed in Ulladulla in January 2022 – after the 2019 bushfires. We drove through the area and while most of the trees on both side of the roads were blackened, vigorous new growth and plants were sprouting and the bush was filled with sounds of life. The sense of horror was palpable. But hope too – that things move on and regrow. It was a sobering thought to know that as a city dweller, and as a new Australian, I am unprepared for bushfires and would not know what to do
