A lavish, strange and fantastical midnight garden – the colours straight from my state of mind at the time with a jumble of land and water creatures, to create an image that makes you look again and again.

Throughout my life I’ve had strangers and people I’ve met briefly, again and again, do a double take or appear visibly confused (if they haven’t met me in person), because my name, my voice and communication screams english/NZ/Au – rather than Asian. Everything is plausible – but the colours, some details and locations are distinctly odd.

The full moon features in most of my night time images. I am a big fan of the moon and was including it in my art way back in the 80s. I used to stand outside in Auckland and look up at the full moon. And I know that moon was the same one my birth family also looked at… somewhere else
