Aotearoa Art Fair: 2026

Viaduct Convention Centre, 30 April - 3 May 2026
Overview
B49 Level 2

BCFA is thrilled to announce our participation in Aotearoa Art Fair, New Zealand, where we exhibit unique series by two exceptional artists, Chris Wise and Gabby Malpas.

The duo exchanges a connection in New Zealand, with transcultural themes addressing the natural environment, spirituality and humanity - both specific to Aotearoa cultures and speaking directly to us all about what it is to be vulnerable and to be human.

Chris Wise is a UK born Australian abstract painter. His presentation at the Aotearoa Art Fair is the result of an artist residency in the awe-inspiring landscape of New Zealand’s South Island. Through the physicality of action painting in the landscape and his connection to the place he finds himself in, Wise works intuitively and unrestrainedly, yet remains deeply attentive to the forces around him. The resulting works are an abstracted response to landscape, in collaboration with it.

Gabby Malpas is a New Zealand born Australian ceramicist and painter, currently living and working on Gadigal land in Sydney. Malpas considers and challenges the genre of Chinoiserie (European decorative style interpreted from Chinese art), with a distinctive narrative as a Chinese adoptee raised by white parents in New Zealand. Reclaiming her heritage later in life, her resulting works are beautiful, delicate “hybrid” ceramic totems, containing narratives which draw the viewer closer.
