The Memory Still Holds is an intimate meditation on beauty, memory and the passing of time. Flowers, transient and continually changing, are a central presence throughout the body of work. Their shadows, colour and delicate forms speak to the experience of watching things we value move through states of being, while the act of painting becomes a way of holding onto a moment.
Yvonne East’s works explore the sweetness and fragility of beauty. Personal experiences of memory, grief and her father’s experience with dementia sit quietly within the work, while the exhibition extends beyond the personal towards a universal experience: our desire to preserve what cannot remain.
